Nowadays with the traction of smart phones and internet, most of us are familiar with the term Artificial intelligence.From Tesla’s self-driving cars to voice assistants like ALEXA, most of the modern technological innovations are the incorporation of AI. While discussing AI, the first thing that strikes my mind is reference from the movie ‘I, Robot’ which portrays the future of human and highly evolved AI system cooperation. This strikes the question -How much will the AI evolve in future?
Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) also referred to as strong AI is much more advanced and is capable of performing cognitive tasks that we are capable of. Every intelligent system that we are dealing with day to day falls under narrow AI or simply -Artificial intelligence . In present context, AI systems are designed for a specific task. This being said, many researchers hope to develop strong AI in the long run. If this goal is met, how will it impact our way of life?
With the successful use of evolved Artificial General systems in different fields, our life can change drastically. In this era of Big Data; data analysis and handling can be done by AI with minimal error. Routine employment and repetitive operations such as; selecting and packaging products, sorting and arranging resources, and answering frequent consumer questions are likely to be replaced by AI. Even now, some of these duties are still carried out by people, but AI will eventually replace humans in these roles. Talking about health sector, advanced AI could be revolutionary for performing complicated and tedious surgeries with ease. And with innovations like full automation self-driving cars and expert AI advisors our time and hassle for many tasks can be minimized.
Though there are many benefits of the AI systems, we surely cannot overlook the possible downsides of highly evolved AI in future. With AGI holding potential like humans, Charles Darwin’s theory ‘Survival of the Fittest’ questions our survival because we wouldn’t be the only intellectually ahead being in the future.
