When I was about 17 years old I went on my first trek to Poon hill where I saw her for the first time. A single glance was enough to fall in love with her before that it was just a stone covered with ice and snow. As it is said “Mountains are picturesque islands of the sky”, it is well said because my eyes are the proof.
It was a month of spring, I and my 4 other friends took a bus from Kathmandu to Naya pul. We reached there at 4:30 am, had our breakfast, and started the trek. The sun had not yet risen, but the light was enough to see the trekking trials. The climate was in our favor (moderate type). The woods, the sound of birds, and the glomming rhododendron were there to welcome us. We were walking through large rhododendron forests with 30 m tall trees which are blooming in many colors. Even a slip of water was enough for us to give the energy to continue our trek. We reached the mountain view hotel which was the last hostel after 2 days of the trek. We were all tired but the next day was the day when all our effort was going to be paid so, there was a fusion of tiredness and excitement. Finally, the day arrived we woke up at 4 am and headed towards the poon hill after 1.5 hours of walking the spot we all were excited about arrived. All the pain and all the tiredness were gone like it was magic. She just woke up with the sunlight on her face, trust me it is the most beautiful scene I have ever seen. Was that place the heaven, could anything be better than that. It was a height of 3200m, and we could sit there, and enjoy looking at her for a longer time as the flow of tourists was much lesser than usual. Since then my addiction got started, my backpacks are always ready and waiting for the holidays.
Every human wants to spend some leisure time in the natural ecosystem. The demand for visiting nature is increasing continuously, among those demands mountain environment being the top most. It also has a reason why the mountain environment is highly appreciated by tourists. The fresh air, the sound of birds with no noise of vehicles and factories, the forest, the different and simple lifestyle of people living at the high altitude, and finally the Scenic beauty of the mountains make everyone fall in love and be addicted to her.
